EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "YELLOW FEVER, 1905. Fumigation of mosquito infested sheds in New Orleans, Louisiana" takes us back to a significant moment in history. The image showcases the tireless efforts undertaken by men in combating yellow fever during the early 20th century. Set against the backdrop of an exterior scene in New Orleans, this photograph captures a crucial aspect of public health prevention at that time. A group of determined individuals can be seen diligently working together to fumigate mosquito-infested sheds. With ladders and fumigators in hand, they are focused on eradicating these disease-carrying insects. The significance of their work lies in the context of yellow fever outbreaks that plagued many parts of America during this period. As infectious diseases posed a grave threat to communities, measures like fumigation were implemented as part of broader public health initiatives. This snapshot from turn-of-the-century America offers a glimpse into the challenging conditions faced by those fighting against yellow fever. It serves as a reminder not only of the hardships endured but also highlights the resilience and dedication exhibited by these brave men.
