EDITORS COMMENTS
This charming illustration by Frederick Richardson captures the essence of a beloved nursery rhyme from Mother Goose. The image depicts a delightful scene where a child, accompanied by her pet cat, interacts with an elderly woman known as a distaff spinner. Created for a 1915 edition of the timeless collection, this artwork showcases Richardson's talent in bringing literature to life through his intricate illustrations. The feline protagonist steals the spotlight with its endearing presence and mischievous gaze. Its soft fur is beautifully rendered, inviting viewers to reach out and stroke it. As we observe this tender moment between the child and her furry companion, we are reminded of the special bond that can exist between humans and animals.
