EDITORS COMMENTS
This lithograph by Currier & Ives transports us back to the intense and pivotal Second Battle of Bull Run in 1862. The print captures the chaos and bravery that unfolded on the battlefields of Manassas, Virginia, as Union troops clashed with their Confederate counterparts. In this scene, a Union soldier fearlessly charges forward, carrying his nation's flag high above his head. With determination etched on his face, he symbolizes the unwavering spirit of the Army of the Potomac as they fought for their cause during this brutal conflict. The artist masterfully depicts the smoke-filled battlefield, showcasing the devastating impact of warfare. The lithograph provides a glimpse into the middle of battle - soldiers are seen engaged in combat while others lie wounded or fallen around them. It serves as a poignant reminder of both the heroism and sacrifice exhibited by those who fought in America's Civil War. Currier & Ives' attention to detail brings this historical event to life. From capturing individual expressions to depicting Old Glory fluttering proudly amidst chaos, every element contributes to an immersive experience for viewers. As we observe this lithograph today, it serves as a testament to our nation's past and reminds us of those who bravely fought for their beliefs during one of America's most challenging periods.
