EDITORS COMMENTS
This print by Frans Sellies showcases the mesmerizing beauty of commercial flower bulb cultivation in the Netherlands. The image, taken at Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse, South Holland, captures a full frame view of this vibrant landscape. The contrasting colors and varied patterns create a visually stunning scene that is both bizarre and abundant. The photograph highlights the growth and conformity seen in this agricultural occupation, as rows upon rows of flowers stretch out into the distance. The geometric shapes formed by these flowerbeds are accentuated by the surrounding boundaries, ditches, and fallow fields. A canal winds through the landscape, adding an element of water to this picturesque setting. With no people present in the photo, one can fully appreciate the natural beauty found within Dutch culture. The aerial perspective allows us to admire how each individual flower contributes to an overall breathtaking display. Striped patterns emerge from multi-colored blooms - reds, yellows, and greens all blending harmoniously together. Frans Sellies' photography skillfully captures not only a travel destination but also emphasizes the significance of agriculture in shaping landscapes around Europe. This color image serves as a reminder that nature's artistry can be found even amidst man-made interventions like commercial cultivation practices. It invites viewers to immerse themselves in this enchanting scene where beauty thrives against all odds.
