EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the serene beauty of a Buddhist stupa in Paro, Bhutan. Standing tall against the clear blue sky, this architectural marvel is a testament to the rich history and cultural significance of Buddhism in Asia. Buddhism, originating in India and spreading throughout much of Asia, played a vital role in shaping the spiritual beliefs and practices of millions. As time passed, its influence waned in India during the middle ages but continued to flourish elsewhere. Scholars recognize two major branches of Buddhism: Theravada (Pali: The School of the Elders) and Mahayana (Sanskrit: The Great Vehicle). Each branch offers unique perspectives on Buddhist teachings and practices. In this image, devoid of human presence, we are invited to appreciate not only the grandeur of this stupa but also its integration into the surrounding natural landscape. Its intricate architecture stands as a symbol of devotion and enlightenment. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are reminded that Buddhism transcends borders and unites people through shared values such as compassion, mindfulness, and inner peace. It serves as an enduring reminder that spirituality can be found amidst even the most breathtaking earthly landscapes. Danita Delimont's skillful capture allows us to immerse ourselves in this tranquil scene—a visual tribute to one of humanity's most profound philosophical traditions.
