EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a high-angle view of the historic Viapori dockyard at Suomenlinna, Finland. Steeped in almost three centuries of uninterrupted activity, this dockyard was once used for constructing galleys and war frigates and continues to operate to this day. The Viapori dockyard is an integral part of Suomenlinna (Sveaborg), a UNESCO World Heritage site that encompasses six islands - Kustaanmiekka, Susisaari, Iso-Mustasaari, Pikku-Mustasaari, Länsi-Mustasaari, and Långören. The gray overcast sky adds a touch of drama to the scene as it looms above the boats and ships anchored in the nautical vessel-filled waters. This horizontal composition beautifully showcases the tradition and Scandinavian charm that permeate through every inch of this picturesque location. Suomenlinna's inclusion as part of Helsinki, the capital city of Finland, further enhances its allure as a travel destination. As you gaze upon this image, you can almost feel yourself transported back in time while appreciating the architectural marvels that make up this sea fortress. With no people present in the frame, your focus is solely on the commercial docks bustling with sailing vessels against an expansive sky backdrop. This photograph truly encapsulates not only Finnish culture but also highlights how nature seamlessly blends with man-made structures within Scandinavia's stunning archipelago. Dmitri Korobtsov's skillful photography perfectly captures all these elements while preserving their authenticity for generations to come.
