EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases three tarot cards depicting The Star, The Moon, and The Sun. Created by the French School and now housed in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, this coloured wood engraving is a true work of art. The image transports us to a world of mysticism and superstition, where dogs bark at the moon and fortune telling holds great power. Each card represents a different aspect of fate and prophecy: The Star symbolizes hope and inspiration, while The Moon signifies intuition and hidden truths. Finally, The Sun radiates warmth, positivity, and enlightenment. Printed by Nicolas Conver during the 17th century on an exquisite sheet of paper known as "cartes à jouer" these tarot cards have stood the test of time as timeless symbols of divination. Their intricate details are brought to life through xylography techniques that capture every ray of light from both celestial bodies. Intriguingly enough, we can also spot a walking stick or cane within this composition—perhaps hinting at guidance or support along one's journey through life. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece from the 18th century (XVIII), we are reminded that even centuries ago people sought answers about their future through these prophetic tools. This print serves as a reminder that our fascination with destiny transcends time itself.
