EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating print that transports viewers to the remote and majestic landscapes of the Himalayas. Painted by Samuel Davis in watercolor on paper, this artwork captures the essence of Bhutanese beauty with its breathtaking mountains, meandering river, and charming huts along the riverbank. The Punakha Dzong stands proudly in the center of this composition, serving as a testament to Bhutan's rich history and cultural heritage. As the former winter capital of Bhutan, it exudes an air of grandeur and tranquility amidst its mountainous surroundings. The artist's attention to detail brings every element to life - from the intricate architectural features of the dzong to the lush greenery that blankets the landscape. This painting not only showcases nature's magnificence but also invites contemplation about human existence within such awe-inspiring settings. It reminds us how small we are compared to these towering peaks while simultaneously highlighting our ability to create remarkable structures like Punakha Dzong. Displayed at Yale Center for British Art as part of their Paul Mellon Collection, this artwork serves as a window into another world - one where time seems suspended and untouched by modernity. It allows us to appreciate both nature's raw power and humanity's capacity for artistic expression. With its vibrant colors and meticulous brushwork, "The Former Winter Capital of Bhutan at Punakha Dzong" is a visual feast
