EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print titled "Les Reines De Lions" we are transported back to the 19th century, where a thrilling scene unfolds before our eyes. The engraving, created by an anonymous French School artist, takes us on a wild adventure filled with excitement and danger. Within the confines of a cage, we witness a fearless woman standing face-to-face with majestic lions and ferocious tigers. Her role as a lion tamer is evident as she fearlessly commands these powerful creatures. However, in this dramatic moment frozen in time, tragedy strikes as one of the lions attacks her. The intensity of the image is palpable; it evokes both horror and awe. We can almost feel the adrenaline coursing through our veins as we witness this life-and-death struggle between human and beast. The woman's bravery shines through even in the face of imminent danger. This artwork serves as a reminder of humanity's fascination with wildlife and our desire for exploration and adventure. It also highlights the risks involved when humans come into close contact with untamed animals. Through its digitally cleaned image, Look and Learn has preserved this historical piece for future generations to appreciate. Bridgeman Images brings us closer to understanding the dangers faced by those who dared to tame these magnificent creatures during an era marked by voyages into unknown territories.
