Created in 1854, this oil on canvas masterpiece measures 112.5x145 cm and is currently housed at the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Caen, France. The artist's meticulous attention to detail brings to life the horrifying scene as flames consume buildings, billowing smoke fills the sky, and desperate figures scramble amidst the destruction. "The Burning of Moscow" serves as a poignant reminder of one of history's most significant military campaigns. It symbolizes not only the destructive power of war but also Russia's resilience and determination to defend its homeland against foreign invaders. Through his masterful brushstrokes, Langlois conveys a sense of urgency and despair while highlighting the sheer magnitude of this catastrophic event. The vibrant colors used for depicting fire contrast with darkened skies, intensifying both fear and awe within viewers.
