EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres' "Reclining Venus, after Titian" from 1822. The oil on canvas masterpiece measures 116x168 cm and is housed in the prestigious Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, USA. In this reimagined Renaissance scene, we see the seductive goddess of love herself, Venus, reclining gracefully on a luxurious cassone or maid chest. Her nude form exudes timeless beauty and elegance as she gazes into the distance with an alluring expression. Adding to the charm of this artwork is a charming Cavalier King Charles Spaniel nestled at Venus' side. This lapdog symbolizes loyalty and companionship while adding a touch of whimsy to the composition. The original painting by Titian was created during the Italian Renaissance period and served as inspiration for Ingres' interpretation. Through his meticulous brushwork and attention to detail, Ingres pays homage to both Titian's original work and classical mythology. As you admire this stunning print, let yourself be transported back in time to an era where art celebrated beauty, sensuality, and mythological tales. Immerse yourself in the allure of Aphrodite herself – a true testament to human creativity throughout history.
