EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable battle scene from Carthage, depicted in a miniature painting found in the "Roman History" by Tite Live. Created by an unknown artist during the 15th century, this artwork is now housed in the Musee Conde in Chantilly, France. The image transports us to ancient North Africa, where two mighty armies clash on the battlefield. The attention to detail and skillful use of illumination bring this historical moment to life. Each soldier's arm is meticulously painted, capturing their strength and determination as they engage in combat. In the midst of this chaotic scene, we see a Tunisian tent standing tall amidst fortifications. This symbolizes the resilience and strategic prowess of Carthaginian forces defending their land against invaders. The scale of the miniature allows us to appreciate both the grandeur and intricacy of this battle. Luisa Ricciarini has expertly captured this masterpiece through her lens, preserving it for generations to come. As we gaze upon this photo print, we are reminded not only of the military might displayed but also of the rich history and cultural heritage that lies within Tunisia and North Africa as a whole. Through art like this, we can explore different periods in history while appreciating artistic techniques passed down through centuries.
