EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable page from the Charter of Kelso Abbey, featuring an exquisite illuminated initial. Created by the English School in the 12th century, this vellum masterpiece depicts King David I and his grandson Malcolm IV in stunning detail. The illuminated initial is adorned with intricate designs and vibrant colors, capturing the grandeur of these medieval Scottish monarchs. King David I, known for his reign from 1084 to 1153, stands tall with a sword in one hand and a sceptre in another, symbolizing his authority and power.
