EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, titled "Cinq Heures chez le Couturier Paquin, 1906" we are transported back in time to the glamorous world of high society fashion. The image captures a momentous gathering at the renowned House of Worth in London, UK. A group of elegantly dressed ladies can be seen engaging in lively conversation while perched on plush chairs and sofas. The atmosphere is one of excitement and anticipation as these fashionable women eagerly await their turn to consult with the esteemed dressmaker Paquin. Their extravagant hats and stylish parasols add an extra touch of sophistication to the scene, perfectly complementing their exquisite gowns. Amidst all the glamour, there is also a delightful surprise - a small dog playfully peeks out from beneath one lady's gown, adding a whimsical element to this otherwise refined setting. As they chat and gossip about the latest trends and social events, it becomes evident that these women not only share a love for fashion but also form part of an exclusive circle where connections are made and reputations established. This remarkable photograph by Gervex transports us into a bygone era when couture was revered as an art form. It serves as both a testament to timeless elegance and an intriguing glimpse into the inner workings of high society during this period.
