EDITORS COMMENTS
This portrait captures the innocence and regal charm of Edward VI, the son of Henry VIII. Painted by Holbein the Younger in 1538, this oil on panel masterpiece showcases the artist's remarkable attention to detail and skillful use of light and shadow. Edward VI is depicted as a young child, his cherubic face framed by golden curls. Dressed in lavish Tudor attire, he wears a plumed hat that adds an air of sophistication beyond his tender years. The artist has expertly captured every delicate feature - from his wide-eyed gaze to his rosy cheeks - making it impossible not to be captivated by this enchanting portrayal. The Latin verse written by poet Richard Morison further enhances the painting's allure, adding depth and context to Edward's royal lineage. As one gazes at this artwork, they are transported back in time to witness a moment frozen forever - a glimpse into the life of a famous prince who would go on to shape history. Now housed in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, USA, this print serves as a reminder of both artistic brilliance and historical significance. It is an exquisite piece that continues to inspire awe and admiration for its subject matter and Holbein's mastery as an artist.
