The Encounter between Arthur and Pellinore - A Legendary Clash of Kings
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this engraving from Gustave Dore's "Stories of the Days of King Arthur" we witness a momentous encounter between two mighty kings, Arthur and Pellinore. Published in 1898 by Charles Henry Hanson, this print transports us to the heart of Arthurian legend. Mounted on their noble steeds, charging towards each other with unwavering determination, these valiant knights epitomize chivalry and honor. The air crackles with anticipation as they prepare to engage in a jousting match that will determine their fate. The pavilion stands tall in the background, bearing witness to this historic confrontation. With every stroke of his masterful engraving technique, Dore brings life to the mythical realm where Merlin's magic intertwines with mortal bravery. As these legendary figures clash swords amidst swirling dust and thundering hooves, it becomes clear that more than physical strength is at stake here. This battle represents a clash of ideologies—a fight for power and supremacy over kingdoms. Both sportswoman and sportsman alike can appreciate the skill displayed by these gallant warriors as they ride fearlessly into combat. Their faces etched with determination reveal an unyielding spirit that refuses defeat.
