EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "At the City of the Countess of the Fountain" takes us back to the enchanting world of King Arthur and his legendary knights. The image, an engraving by Gustave Dore from Charles Henry Hanson's book "Stories of the Days of King Arthur" transports us to a time filled with chivalry, honor, and adventure. In this scene, we find ourselves standing before a majestic castle adorned with fluttering banners. A drawbridge stretches across a deep moat, inviting us into this medieval fortress. Knights on horseback traverse the valley below as they embark on noble quests in service to their king. The atmosphere is alive with anticipation as Sir Ewaine, one of King Arthur's esteemed Knights of the Round Table, prepares for another daring expedition. His gallant steed stands tall and proud beside him while he readies himself for battle. The castle itself exudes grandeur and mystery - its towering walls housing tales untold within its ancient stones. It serves as both a dwelling place for nobility and a symbol of power that echoes throughout history. As we gaze upon this remarkable print, we are reminded not only of the thrilling adventures that unfolded during these times but also how art has preserved these stories for generations to come.
