EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning pair of andirons, also known as chenets, crafted in 1752 by the renowned artist Jacques Caffieri. Made from gilt bronze, these ornamental pieces are a true testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of the time. Standing at an impressive height of 44.20 cm and measuring 54.60 cm in width with a depth of 14.00 cm, these andirons are currently housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio, USA. The intricate details on this piece include gilded lion heads that add an air of regality to any fireplace they adorn. The signature "Caffieri, 1752" proudly etched onto these andirons further solidifies their authenticity and historical significance. This particular print is part of John L. Severance's bequest to the museum. With its rich history dating back to the 18th century, this pair of andirons serves not only as functional furniture but also as decorative art pieces that elevate any interior space they grace. The inclusion of a walking stick or cane adds an interesting touch to this composition.
