EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stipple engraving of Angelica Kauffman, after the renowned artist Sir Joshua Reynolds, dating back to 1780. Created by Francesco Bartolozzi, this masterpiece measures 34.9x27.3 cm and is housed in the prestigious Yale Center for British Art's Paul Mellon Collection in the United States. Angelica Kauffman herself was a Swiss-Austrian painter who gained significant recognition during her time. Known for her exceptional talent and skill, she became one of the most sought-after portrait artists of the neoclassical era. In this particular portrait, we see Kauffman depicted as a female artist in an elegant half-length pose within an oval frame. She wears an empire line dress that epitomizes the Georgian fashion trends of that period. The artistry behind this engraving beautifully captures both Kauffman's grace and Reynolds' artistic style. The meticulous detailing achieved through stippling adds depth and texture to every stroke, enhancing its overall allure. As we admire this remarkable piece from Fine Art Finder's collection, let us appreciate not only Angelica Kauffman's contribution to art history but also Francesco Bartolozzi's mastery in immortalizing her image through his engravings.
