EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the "Relics of Bridewell Hospital" engraving, created by an English School artist in the 19th century. The artwork is part of a private collection and depicts the remnants of Bridewell Hospital, as featured in The Illustrated London News on March 20,1847. The image transports us back in time to witness the architectural marvels that once graced the city of London. The relics stand proudly against a backdrop of Norman pellet moulding, showcasing intricate details and craftsmanship from centuries past. As we delve into this historical scene, our eyes are drawn to a cherub's head adorning one corner of the engraving. This delicate touch adds a sense of whimsy and enchantment to an otherwise stoic representation. Through this photograph, we can appreciate not only the artistic skill behind capturing these relics but also their significance within London's rich history. Bridewell Hospital served as an important institution for centuries before its eventual demise. This print serves as a reminder that art has the power to transport us through time and immerse us in stories long forgotten. It invites viewers to explore and contemplate how architecture shapes our cities while preserving glimpses into bygone eras.
