EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite sculpture "Aldona (plaster)" by Emile-Antoine Bourdelle, displayed at the Musee Bourdelle in Paris, France. The sculpture is a maquette for the panels on the base of the monument dedicated to Adam Mickiewicz, a renowned Polish poet and patriot. Depicting Aldona, a princess of Lithuania and Queen of Poland from 1333-39, this artwork pays homage to her piety and love for music. The artist beautifully captures her regal presence through intricate details and delicate craftsmanship. The photograph allows us to appreciate the three-dimensional nature of this ronde bosse sculpture. It invites us to explore every curve and contour as we admire its tribute to Polish history and culture. This piece holds significant historical importance as it commemorates both Aldona's legacy as well as Mickiewicz's contributions to literature. Its placement near Cours Albert Ier in Paris adds an additional layer of symbolism, connecting different cultures through art.
