This print titled "Columbus in the New World, 1906" by Edwin Austin Abbey takes us back to a pivotal moment in history. The painting depicts Christopher Columbus, adorned in knightly armor, planting his sword into the uncharted soil of the New World. Kneeling beside him is a priest, engaged in an outdoor mass as they both offer their gratitude for this newfound land. The artist skillfully captures the essence of discovery and exploration through symbolism. In the background, vibrant flamingos native to the New World grace the scene while flags from Europe flutter proudly above them. This juxtaposition represents both old and new worlds colliding.
