EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment of profound emotion and divine intervention. The scene depicts the "Raising of the widows son of Nain" originally painted by Veronese in the 16th century, and later reproduced by David Teniers the Younger. With its rich colors and intricate details, this panel exudes Flemish artistry at its finest. At the center of the composition stands Jesus Christ, his compassionate gaze fixed upon a grieving widow who kneels before him in despair. As her deceased son lies lifeless on a stretcher, hope seems lost. However, through an act of miraculous power, Jesus raises his hand towards heaven and commands life back into the young man's body. The atmosphere is charged with awe as witnesses surround this extraordinary event unfolding before their eyes. Their expressions range from astonishment to reverence as they bear witness to this incredible resurrection. Beyond being a mere reproduction, this print serves as a reminder that miracles can transcend time and space. It invites us to contemplate themes such as reincarnation and awakening – concepts that have fascinated humanity for centuries. Displayed within Vienna's esteemed Kunsthistorisches Museum, this artwork continues to inspire viewers with its spiritual depth and artistic brilliance. Thanks to Bridgeman Art Gallery's dedication to preserving fine art treasures like these, we can now appreciate them in our own homes or offices while honoring their historical significance without commercial intentions
