Created by Antonin Marie Chatiniere, this intricate and visually stunning artwork transports us to a world filled with enchantment and cultural richness. The scene depicted in this set design captures the essence of the opera's storyline, based on Pierre Loti's novel Rarahu ou Le Mariage de Loti. We witness Lakme, the protagonist, being coerced by her father Nilakantha, a high priest, to sing in order to lure her British officer lover Gerald into revealing himself.
