EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Battle of Waterloo in 1815" by Charles Steiben, a remarkable piece created with watercolor and ink on paper. The artwork is housed at the State Borodino War and History Museum in Moscow. Depicting one of history's most significant battles, this composition transports us back to June 18th, 1815, when Napoleon Bonaparte faced his final defeat. The Battle of Waterloo marked the end of an era as Napoleon was vanquished by Arthur Wellesley, the renowned 1st Duke of Wellington. In this image, we witness the intensity and chaos that unfolded on the Belgian battlefield. French and British troops clash fiercely amidst a sea of cavalry charges and infantry advances. Each soldier fights valiantly for their cause while generals strategize to secure victory. Steiben's masterful use of watercolor brings life to every stroke, capturing both the grandeur and brutality inherent in warfare. Through his artistry, he immortalizes this historic moment for generations to come. As we gaze upon this print, we are reminded not only of the valor displayed by these soldiers but also of the profound impact their actions had on shaping European history. It serves as a testament to human resilience during times of conflict and stands as a tribute to those who fought bravely on that fateful day at Waterloo.
