EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print titled "Arthur and the Strange Mantle" we are transported into the mythical world of King Arthur's legend. Created by Aubrey Beardsley in 1893-94, this illustration is taken from Sir Thomas Malory's renowned work, Le Morte d'Arthur. The scene depicts a pivotal moment as Morgan le Fey, Arthur's half-sister and sorceress, plots his demise. She cunningly sends him a mantle that will engulf its wearer in flames upon contact. However, Arthur remains vigilant and heeds the warning given to him by the Lady of the Lake. Intriguingly detailed with elements of Art Nouveau style, Beardsley brings forth an ethereal quality to Camelot Castle where this dramatic event unfolds. The castle stands tall against a starlit sky while mysterious shadows dance around its ancient walls. This artwork not only captures our imagination but also serves as a reminder of Arthur's unwavering bravery and wisdom. Despite facing treacherous challenges orchestrated by those closest to him, he navigates through them with resilience and honor. As we gaze upon this print from Fine Art Finder, we are transported back in time to witness one of King Arthur's most perilous encounters. It reminds us that even amidst darkness and deceit, true heroes emerge victorious through their courage and righteousness.
