EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a mesmerizing detail of Mary Magdalene, painted on wood by the talented artist Ligier Richier in around 1530. The artwork is located in the Eglise St. Gengoult in Briey, France, and depicts a scene from Calvary. Mary Magdalene's face exudes an overwhelming sense of sadness and suffering, reflecting her deep devotion to Jesus Christ. The polychrome painting skillfully portrays the passion and pain that Mary Magdalene experienced during this significant moment in Christian history. Her expression evokes empathy as viewers are drawn into her emotional journey. Richier's attention to detail is evident as he masterfully captures every nuance of Mary Magdalene's features with precision and delicacy. The Renaissance influence can be observed through the meticulous brushwork and lifelike representation of this revered saint. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece, we are reminded of the profound impact that Christianity has had throughout history. It serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who followed their faith with unwavering dedication.
