EDITORS COMMENTS
In this black and white lith print, we are drawn to the intricate details of a lower jaw from an animal skull resting on parched mud in Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania. The cracked mud surrounding the jaw tells a story of arid conditions and the harsh realities of survival in the African wilderness. The photograph skillfully captures the essence of Selous, one of East Africa's most remarkable travel destinations. Paul Joynson Hicks' artistic eye has immortalized this scene, showcasing both its beauty and desolation. The contrasting tones of black and white emphasize every fine line etched into the bone and each crevice within the dry mud. As we gaze upon this image, our imagination takes flight as we ponder what creature once possessed this powerful mandible. It serves as a poignant reminder that life in these vast landscapes can be unforgiving yet awe-inspiring. Selous Game Reserve is renowned for its rich biodiversity, offering sanctuary to countless species that call it home. Through PJ's lens, we catch a glimpse into their world—a world where survival depends on adaptation and resilience against nature's harshest elements. This photograph invites us to reflect on our place within nature's grand tapestry while igniting a sense of wanderlust for those who yearn to explore Africa's untamed beauty firsthand.
