EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Cambodia's rich cultural heritage. In the bustling city of Battambang, at Phar Ponleu Selpak, a renowned arts school, stands an exquisite roneat - a traditional Khmer xylophone. The ER (Cambodia, Battambang) is beautifully adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant colors that reflect the country's artistic prowess. The roneat holds great significance in Khmer music as it produces enchanting melodies that have been passed down through generations. Its distinct sound resonates throughout the air, transporting listeners to a bygone era filled with tradition and history. Phar Ponleu Selpak serves as a sanctuary for aspiring artists and performers who are eager to preserve their cultural roots. This educational institution not only teaches various art forms but also nurtures talent in circus skills. The juxtaposition of the roneat against this backdrop creates an intriguing fusion of ancient traditions and modern creativity. Photographer Walter Bibikow has masterfully captured this moment, showcasing both the beauty of Cambodian craftsmanship and the vibrancy of its people. As we gaze upon this image, we are reminded of Cambodia's enduring spirit and its commitment to preserving its unique identity amidst a rapidly changing world. This photograph from Discover Images by AWL invites us on a visual journey through Southeast Asia where every detail tells a story waiting to be discovered.
