EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the year 1930 when well-wishers gathered at Tilbury, England to bid farewell to Douglas Jardine and other members of the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). The group stands united on the deck of the magnificent Orient liner Orontes, ready for their voyage to Australia. As they set sail, a sense of anticipation fills the air. The image captures a moment of separation as loved ones wave goodbye from shore. Men and women stand side by side, their faces filled with mixed emotions - excitement for what lies ahead and sadness at parting ways. Amongst them is a child who looks on in awe at this grand departure. The scene is framed by a street light and fencing, adding depth to the composition. A tugboat gently guides the massive cruise ship towards its destination while a distant view of water completes the picturesque landscape. This historic photograph not only showcases an organized group embarking on an adventure but also reflects upon lifestyles during that era. It serves as a reminder of how transportation has evolved over time and highlights Britain's strong connection with nautical vessels. Captured by Davis/Getty Images, this timeless print allows us to glimpse into history and appreciate both the beauty of human connection and our ever-changing world.
