Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage - Zambia - Africa
Pan troglodytes
Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage is recognised as the worlds largest dedicated sanctuary for orphaned chimps. As chimpanzees are not indigenous to Zambia it is not possible to free-release them locally, therefore 2, 000 acres of forest land has been designated to the chimps.

Double Trouble - A Mother's Love in the Wild
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this heartwarming snapshot, we witness a tender moment between a female chimpanzee and her adorable young offspring at Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage in Zambia. These playful primates are part of an extraordinary sanctuary dedicated to caring for orphaned chimps. Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage, known as the world's largest chimp sanctuary, provides a safe haven for these incredible creatures. Since chimpanzees are not native to Zambia, releasing them back into the wild is not possible. Instead, 2,000 acres of lush forest land have been set aside exclusively for their well-being. As we gaze upon this image captured by M. Watson, it becomes evident that social behavior and bonding play significant roles in their lives. The mother gently cradles her young one while engaging in meaningful communication—a testament to the strong maternal instincts shared among our primate relatives. The photograph serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting wildlife and preserving their natural habitats. It also showcases the undeniable beauty found within nature's intricate tapestry.
