Blackbuck (Bovidae) is a species of antelope found in India, Nepal, and Pakistan, and is the sole extant member of the genus Antilope and is classified under the family Bovidae, light brown to dark brown coat with white markings on its face, throat, chest, and belly. Males have long horns that can reach up to 30 inches in length, and are diurnal animals that live in herds of up to 100 individuals and feed mainly on grasses and shrubs, and are fast runners capable of reaching speeds of up to 50 mph when pursued by predators such as tigers or wolves and are excellent swimmers and can swim across rivers if necessary for safety, and are an important part of Indian culture; they were once revered by kings as symbols of strength and power but today they are threatened due to habitat loss caused by human activities such as deforestation or overgrazing by livestock. Conservation efforts have been put into place in order to protect this species from extinction.
