EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a mesmerizing drawing by Giulio Romano, showcasing two enchanting putti on a chariot. Preserved in the prestigious Royal Library of Turin, this artwork is a testament to the artistic brilliance of the Early Renaissance and Renaissance-Baroque styles. Dating back to the 16th century, this masterpiece was created by Giulio Romano, also known as Giulio Pippi. Born in 1499 and passing away in 1546, Romano left an indelible mark on European art with his exquisite talent. In this composition, we witness two winged putti gracefully adorning a horse-drawn chariot. The attention to detail is remarkable as every line and stroke brings life to these celestial beings. The nudity and human-like features of the putti evoke both innocence and beauty. The setting depicts a scene on land where these divine figures traverse their journey. It's fascinating how such an ancient mode of transportation can still captivate our imagination today. As we delve into this artwork, it becomes evident that literature and fiction have influenced its creation. Perhaps inspired by mythical tales or literary works from that era, Romano has beautifully intertwined fantasy with reality. Captured around 1917, this photograph allows us to appreciate the intricacies of Romano's original drawing while preserving its essence for future generations. Anderson from Alinari has skillfully captured every nuance of this piece without compromising its integrity. Through this photo print, we are transported back in time – witnessing not only the genius of Giulio Romano but also experiencing Europe's rich cultural heritage during the First and Second Millennium A. D. , when art flourished under various stylistic influences including early Renaissance and Renaissance-Baroque periods.
