EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph transports us back to the Exhibition of Science History in 1929, held in the beautiful city of Florence. The image showcases a collection of cattotropic microscopes, meticulously crafted by the renowned scientist Giovan Battista Amici. These intricate instruments are displayed with drawers and accessories, evoking a sense of awe and curiosity. In the foreground, we see an ocular micrometer with double images, capturing our attention with its unique design. This device allowed scientists to measure objects under microscopic observation accurately. It serves as a testament to Amici's dedication to precision and innovation in his scientific pursuits. Today, these remarkable instruments find their home in the Museum of Science History in Florence. Preserved for future generations to marvel at, they serve as tangible reminders of Amici's contributions to the field of physics and research subjects within mathematical and natural sciences. The composition of this photograph is striking; it captures not only the beauty but also the functionality behind these microscopes. The chest-like structure holding them adds an element of mystery - what secrets lie within those drawers? What discoveries were made using these very lenses? Alinari Fratelli masterfully captured this momentous occasion through their lens, immortalizing both Amici's ingenuity and Florence's commitment to celebrating science history. As we gaze upon this print today, we can't help but be transported back in time - imagining ourselves among those who marveled at these extraordinary devices during that unforgettable exhibition over nine decades ago.
