Us-X-38 Flight
This 10 July NASA image shows the X-38 prototype being released from NASAs B-52 mothership over the Edwards Air Force Base range in Californias Mojave Desert during the second free-flight test of the X-38 series prototypes. Shortly after the photo was taken, a sequenced deployment of a drogue parachute followed by a large parafoil fabric wing slowed the X-38 to enable it to land safely on Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards. NASA engineers from the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards, and the Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, are developing a " lifeboat" for the International Space Station based on X-38 research. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the awe-inspiring moment of the Us-X-38 Flight, a significant milestone in NASA's research and development. Taken on 10th July, this image showcases the X-38 prototype being released from NASAs B-52 mothership over the vast expanse of Edwards Air Force Base range in California's Mojave Desert. During this second free-flight test of the X-38 series prototypes, a meticulously planned sequence unfolds shortly after this snapshot was taken. A drogue parachute is deployed first, followed by a large parafoil fabric wing that gracefully slows down the X-38. This crucial maneuver allows for a safe landing on Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards. The dedicated team of engineers from NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards and Johnson Space Center in Houston are diligently working towards developing a "lifeboat" for the International Space Station based on their extensive X-38 research. The potential applications and implications of such technology are immense, offering enhanced safety measures for future space missions. This remarkable photograph encapsulates not only the cutting-edge advancements made by NASA but also highlights their unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers. It serves as a testament to human ingenuity and our relentless pursuit of knowledge beyond Earth's atmosphere.
