Spectacled Flying Fox Collection

The Spectacled Flying Fox (Pteropodidae) is a species of megabat native to Australia and New Guinea, and is one of the largest bats in the world, with an average wingspan of up to 1.5 meters and a body length of up to 35 cm. The fur on its back is typically dark brown or black, while its belly fur is lighter in color. Its most distinctive feature is the yellow-orange fur around its eyes, giving it a “spectacled” appearance. These flying foxes are omnivorous, feeding mainly on fruit and nectar but also consuming insects and small vertebrates such as fish, frogs, lizards and birds, and are important pollinators for many plants in their range due to their large size and ability to fly long distances in search of food sources and are important seed dispersers due to their habit of carrying fruit away from trees before consuming them elsewhere.
