The Central American Agouti (Dasyproctidae) is a mammal native to Central and South America, and is a member of the rodent family and has a long, slender body with short legs and feet. The fur is reddish-brown in color, with black stripes running along its back. Its head is round with large eyes, ears, and nose. Its diet consists mainly of fruits, nuts, seeds, leaves, roots and small invertebrates. It lives in tropical rainforests where it can find plenty of food sources, and is an important seed disperser for many plants in the region as it helps to spread their seeds across the forest floor.
