Walnut Scale Collection

Walnut scale is a small, oval-shaped insect that feeds on the sap of walnut trees and has a black or brown body and can reach up to 3mm in length. The adult female lays her eggs on the underside of walnut leaves and when they hatch, the larvae feed on the sap from the tree. The larvae then molt into nymphs which eventually become adults, and are cause significant damage to walnut trees if left unchecked as it sucks out large amounts of sap which weakens and stunts growth. To control this pest, insecticides should be used in combination with pruning and other cultural practices such as removing infested leaves or branches from trees.
