Bagworm Photo Mug Collection

Bagworms are small, moth-like insects that feed on plants and trees. They have a unique life cycle, beginning as eggs laid in a protective bag made of silk and bits of plant material. The larvae hatch from the eggs and feed on the plant material until they reach adulthood. Adult they are about 1 inch long with brownish-gray bodies covered in tiny hairs. They have wings but do not fly; instead, they crawl around to find food sources or mates and can be destructive to plants if left unchecked, as they can defoliate entire trees or shrubs in a short period of time. To control them, gardeners should remove any bags from their plants and dispose of them away from other vegetation. Chemical insecticides may also be used for more serious infestations.
