Chum Salmon Collection

Chum Salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) is a species of salmon that can be found in the North Pacific Ocean and rivers draining into it, and are anadromous fish, meaning they migrate from freshwater to saltwater and back again. They have a silver-blue coloration with black spots on their backs and upper sides, and are one of the largest species of Pacific salmon, reaching up to 4 feet in length and weighing up to 40 pounds. Chum salmon feed on small crustaceans, insects, squid, shrimp, herring eggs, and other fish as they migrate through different waters. Spawning occurs during late fall or early winter when chum salmon return to their natal streams or rivers where they lay eggs in gravel nests called redds. After hatching the young fry will remain in freshwater for one to two years before migrating out into the ocean where they will continue their life cycle until returning once more as adults to spawn again.
