Magpie Lark Collection

Magpie Lark (Grallina cyanoleuca) is a passerine bird belonging to the monarch family, and is native to Australia, New Guinea and parts of Indonesia, medium-sized bird with black and white plumage, a long tail and an orange-brown beak. Its diet consists mainly of insects, small reptiles and amphibians as well as seeds, fruits and berries. It builds its nest in trees or on the ground near water sources such as rivers or lakes. During breeding season it can be seen in pairs performing elaborate courtship displays involving bowing, calling and chasing each other around the nest site. The female lays 2-4 eggs which are incubated by both parents for about two weeks before hatching, and are important members of their ecosystems due to their role in controlling insect populations as well as providing food for other animals such as raptors or larger mammals like dingoes or foxes.
