Oriental Plover Collection

The Oriental Plover (Charadriidae Charadriiformes) is a small wading bird that is found in parts of Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea and has a white head and neck with black patches on the sides of its face and throat. Its back is grayish-brown with white spots, while its underparts are white. Its legs are yellowish-orange in color. The Oriental Plover feeds mainly on insects such as grasshoppers and crickets which it finds by probing into mudflats or shallow water with its bill. It also eats small crustaceans such as shrimps and mollusks which it finds by digging into sand or mudflats with its feet. During the breeding season, the male performs an elaborate courtship display to attract a mate which includes bowing his head and flicking his wings while singing loudly from atop tall vegetation or rocks near water bodies. The female builds a nest on the ground near water bodies where she lays her eggs before incubating them for about three weeks until they hatch.
