Left to right in the Olympic Stadium, Seoul Sports Complex, Seoul, South Korea: Algeria's Hassiba Boulmerka (#2), Canada's Renee Belanger (#61), the USSR's Nadiya Olizarenko (#542), Suriname's Letitia Vriesde (#486), Great Britain's Diane Edwards (#217) and the USA's Kim Gallagher (#567).
Edwards and Gallagher would both qualify for the final, the latter winning the bronze and the former finishing eighth

The Chelsea Arts Club Dazzle Ball

A flamboyant fancy-dress ball given by the Chelsea Arts Club at the Albert Hall. It was based on the principles of Dazzle, the method of camouflage used during the war in the painting of ships to help them in escaping from the attacks of submarines. Date: 1919
