King Charles II of France and the Holy Roman Empire (823-877), 9th century (1849). Charles II was Holy Roman Emperor (875-877) and King of West Francia (840-877). A 19th century version based on a 9th century miniature in the bible of Charles le Chauve, found in the collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
