Sea-borne Assault: Troops Move In To Madagascar, 1940-1942, (1943)
Sea-borne Assault: Troops Move In To Madagascar, 1940-1942, (1943). The Battle of Madagascar was a British campaign to capture Vichy French-controlled Madagascar during World War II. During the Landings of Operation Ironclad, British 29th Infantry Brigade and No. 5 Commandos landed in assault craft in Courrier Bay and Ambararata Bay, west of the major port of Diego Suarez (later known as Antsiranana), at the northern tip of Madagascar. From Combined Operations, 1940-1942. [His Majesty's Stationery Office, London, 1943]

A male crowned lemur
A male crowned lemur (Eulemur coronatus) near Antsiranana (formerly Diego Suarez). These lemurs are only found in Northern Madagascar. Lemurs belong to a group of primates called the prosimians, meaning before monkeys'. Everywhere in the world except Madagascar, monkeys replaced them 35 million years ago. Madagascar has outstanding biodiversity; most of its flora and fauna is unique to the island and can be found nowhere else
