Acrylic Blox : Cactus plant spines
Mounted Prints from Science Photo Library
Cactus plant spines
Cactus plant. Tip of a silver torch cactus plant (Cleistocactus strausii). This cactus originates from South America. It forms narrow (6-centimetre- wide) columns up to 2.4 metres high. Cacti evolved in arid environments, and have tissues adapted to minimise water loss. Cactus leaves are reduced to narrow spines (white), and the plant surface is covered in a thick, waxy outer layer. Many cacti also have a means of storing water
