Acrylic Blox : Advanced spacesuit
Mounted Prints from Science Photo Library
Advanced spacesuit
Advanced spacesuit. Artwork of the BioSuit, a prototype advanced spacesuit designed by Dava Newman, professor of aeronautics and astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Present-day spacesuits surround the wearer with a balloon-like layer of pressurised oxygen making them very bulky and heavy. The BioSuit incorporates tight fabric and a gas pressure system that exerts pressure directly onto the wearers skin. This spacesuit is lighter and more flexible compared to present day suits. Future versions of the suit will incorporate sensors, a life support system and artificial muscles. Photographed in 2005

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the groundbreaking BioSuit, an advanced spacesuit prototype designed by Dava Newman, a renowned professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT. Departing from the traditional bulky and heavy spacesuits of today, this innovative creation revolutionizes space exploration attire. The artwork beautifully captures the essence of this technological marvel. The BioSuit incorporates tight fabric that contours to the wearer's body while utilizing a gas pressure system to exert direct pressure onto their skin. This ingenious design not only enhances flexibility but also significantly reduces weight, allowing astronauts to move with greater ease in the vastness of space. Photographed in 2005, this image offers a glimpse into the future possibilities for spacesuit technology. Future iterations are expected to incorporate sensors, life support systems, and even artificial muscles - further pushing boundaries in human space exploration. With its sleek lines and futuristic aesthetic, this illustration represents a significant leap forward in our quest for interstellar travel. It symbolizes humanity's relentless pursuit of scientific progress as we strive to overcome challenges posed by outer space environments. Displayed against a backdrop reminiscent of a laboratory setting, this artwork serves as both an inspiration and reminder that innovation knows no bounds when it comes to unlocking new frontiers beyond Earth's atmosphere.
