Cliff, 42, set to work in his backyard at Sawston, Cambridgeshire, to get the thing off the drawing board and into the air. First he tried the hang-gliding principle but he was too impatient to depend on wind and weather. Fitting a rudder and a motorbike engine and propeller he was ready for take-off in his cliffhanger.
