Least Bittern Straddling Reeds

This photo was taken at the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive in central Florida. It is an 11-mile drive throughout a wildlife conservation area. This photo shows a least bittern doing what they do so well - they grab the reeds with their talons, and will lean forward and dip into the water for a fish. Remarkable acrobats. The view here is of the bird from behind. This diminutive heron is fairly common in its preferred wetland habitat, but secretive and easily overlooked
