Emperor penguin chick and adulta (Aptenodytes forsteri), Snow Hill Island

Emperor penguin chick and adulta (Aptenodytes forsteri), Snow Hill Island, Weddell Sea, Antarctica, Polar Regions The Emperor Penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) is the tallest and heaviest of all living penguin species. It is the only penguin that breeds during the winter in Antarctica. Emperor Penguins eat mainly crustaceans (such as krill) but also occasionally indulge in small fish and squid. In the wild, Emperor Penguins typically live for 20 years, but some records indicate a maximum lifespan of around 40 years. The Emperor Penguin should not be confused with the closely related King Penguin or the Royal Penguin

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a heartwarming moment between an Emperor penguin chick and its adult counterpart on Snow Hill Island in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica. The Emperor Penguin, known for its impressive stature and weight, is the tallest and heaviest of all living penguin species. What sets this remarkable creature apart is its ability to breed during the harsh winter months in Antarctica. In this image, we witness the strong bond between parent and offspring as they stand side by side in their icy habitat. The young chick looks up to its guardian with admiration and trust, while the adult penguin exudes a sense of protection and care. Their close proximity showcases the tenderness that exists within this unique family unit. Emperor Penguins primarily feed on crustaceans like krill but occasionally indulge in small fish and squid. With an average lifespan of 20 years in the wild, these incredible creatures can live up to 40 years according to some records. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are reminded of the beauty found within nature's most remote corners. The frozen landscape serves as a backdrop for this intimate display of affectionate connection amidst isolation. It is a testament to love, friendship, and resilience against extreme conditions. Photographed by Thorsten Milse/Robert Harding for WorldInPrint, this stunning image invites us into the world of Emperor Penguins where family bonds flourish even in one of Earth's harshest environments - Antarctica's polar region.
